Corinthian Girls U12 win the Denise McArdle-Moore Cup in a 4 – 2 victory over Mallow United after extra time.

22 May 2022

The U12 Corinthian Girls team had a great cup campaign as they beat Innishvilla, Carrigaline, Avondale and Lakewood to reach the final of the Denis McArdle-Moore Cup on Sunday May 22nd.   Both teams started full of energy and Mallow took the lead in the 8th minute with a long range effort from outside the box. Both teams had chances in the first half but strong defenses keep the score at 1 – 0 going into half time. The Corinthians’ heads didn’t go down and girls came back after the break with a great team effort and took the lead with goals from Tess Mc Nulty and Atha Soliman. Mallow showed great spirit and responded by taking the game to Corinthians and finally got a deserved equaliser. At the end of normal time, Mallow nearly took the victory with a fine shot to the bottom right corner only for a diving save by Corinthians keeper, Sarah Butler, to deny them. In extra time, Corinthians played very well and tightened their marking which kept Mallow under pressure and led to more opportunities for Corinthians. Two more goals goals from Blanca De Cabo and Tess McNulty for Corinthians and two great saves from Sarah Butler put the game beyond Mallow and gave victory to Corinthians.

Corinthians really wanted this cup, didn’t give up and finally earned victory over 80 minutes of football. This team is a very new team with some players making their soccer debuts this season. This is a great achievement for them and the club, and builds on the girls success winning the Division 1 title earlier in the week.
