Peter (Pete) Newman
As I am sure most of you are aware, we had a tragic accident in Corinthians Park yesterday afternoon which resulted in the passing of Club stalwart Peter (Pete) Newman; no words can express the devastation felt by his family and friends at this terribly sad loss. It just doesn’t add up that someone could go to Corinthians Park to watch a game and not come home.
Pete was a man of many talents, a Musician, Poet, Writer, storyteller, he was fabulous company and took a great pride in his association with the Club over 15+ years. During this time period he helped with security, caretaking functions, groundwork and always had the best interests of the Club at heart. In years, he was a very young 75 and took great pride in his physical condition; he could be seen working out in the Corinthians Gym most mornings. At other times you would see him pounding the perimeter of Corinthians with his dogs which he did two or three times every day (Bare chested of course in the summer months). To put it mildly, he was a real character and will be sorely missed.
On behalf of The Club, I would like to express a big thank you to everyone who helped out in any way at the time of the accident in what must have been extremely difficult circumstances. This included several people from other Clubs who were present in Corinthians Park and who did everything they could to help. A big thank you also to the Emergency Services who did everything possible to help and assist on the day; they were extremely professional and very supportive. The Gardai in Togher have contacted the Club offering counselling services and support; if anyone would like to avail of this support then please contact Support Services Togher Garda Station at 021 4947120 for further information.
We are not sure at this time as to what the funeral arrangements will be and these may not be available until Monday / Tuesday and with Covid restrictions, it may only be possible for a small number of Pete’s close friends to attend. We will however keep you informed as soon as we receive any details.
Corinthians Park will remain closed for the present and a decision as to a potential reopening date will not be made until funeral arrangements become available
May he Rest In Peace
