Match report U16 premier National Cup versus Carrigaline

Result 2-0: Dean Harte and Alex Minihane

In difficult weather conditions on Sunday morning we took on Carrigaline in an eagerly awaited first round national Cup tie at home. Last year Carrigaline had knocked us out of the national Cup so this was always going to be a mammoth battle.

We began well and dominated the early exchanges. At half time the score remained nil all despite corinthians creating several opportunities in front of goal.

The second half remained a tight these affair but again our lads were on top. All we needed was a breakthrough and after creating several chances through some excellent football it was a scrappy goal that gave us the lead. Dean Harte who was excellent all game swung in a dangerous cross into the box and Alex Minihane went up with the Carrigaline keeper resulting in the ball somehow going straight into the net. It was just what we needed and from then on we were in complete control. Alex Minihane pounced on a loose ball in the box to get a well deserved second for what was a brilliant performance from the number 9.

It was an excellent squad display, with the back five of keeper, Mathew o Connor,

Dean Harte, Scott Philpott,  Jamie Collins and Leo Barron were rock solid. In midfield Jeff Holden and Seanie Dunlea were superb while our front 4 of Matthew O reilly, Daragh O Connell, ricardo and Alex Minihane were a constant threat. Adam Hunt, Andrew Greaney and Robert Geaney O Brien were excellent when they came on. Up next is the same opposition again at home this time in the league.
