Local Cup

Lakewood Ath.  1  Corinthian Boys 6

Memories of a high margin victory in the league at this venue for the visitors earlier this season were fading fast as the first quarter passed scoreless. Quarter two began with Jack Leonard's persistence retrieving a ball which he laid back to Joe Harte at the edge of the box. JH opened the scoring by curling a well placed left foot shot from the edge of the box to the corner of the net.

Ten minutes later, Destiny Okonkwo scored a fine individual effort. He won the opposing goal kick out with impressive ball control, before dribbling towards goal and unleashing a powerful low drive to double the visitor's advantage. In the last minute of the first half, centre back Eoin Redmond glided from his own half, ended up in the opposing penalty box and scored a third.

Jack Leonard began the second half by scoring a fourth following fine control and a competent finish. There followed an extraordinary goal when Daniel Meade received a David Welch pass and unleashed a fierce drive to the top corner from at least 30 metres. Within two minutes, DM had scored again.

Lakewood never threw in the towel. They hit the woodwork late in the second half. They got their just reward in the final minute with a spectacular free for a really fine goal.

Corinthians Boys 6 Killinardrish Coachford 1

The u14 Premier team progressed to the last 8 of the Local Cup with a comfortable win. Playing on a difficult narrow pitch the scoring was opened in the 4th minute by a shot from Leo Barron which found the back of the net.

Adam Idah who caused the defence problems all day despite being robustly man marked for the entire game, continued the scoring with a strong run and finish from a tight angle. The man of the moment David Murphy hit an unstoppable left footed shot from the edge of the box which flew into the top left hand corner.

In the second half despite playing into a strong wind the team continued to dominate, Ricardo Dinanga added a fourth shortly into the second half. A lack of concentration in defence cost Corinthians a goal but this spurred the team on, 3 great opportunities where spurned before a cross from the right was finished off by a diving header from Adam Idah. Fionn Molloy finished off the scoring with a fine individual effort which gave the keeper no chance.
