Under 14 Match Report
Corinthians Boys – 9 Greenwood 2

The Corinthians Boys u14 team finished off the calendar year in some style. They produced a display which has been waiting to happen all season. But they did not have it all their own way in the first half.

After 4 minutes Greenwood went in front when a corner was finished with a great one touch by the Greenwood forward. but Corinthians came back. playing against the breeze they controlled possession and made their way back into the game. with a fantastic finish on the volley by Adam Idah on 10 minutes. A bit of loose defending 11 minutes later let Greenwood with sight on goal and a good shot was finished to the corner beyond Richard Lombard.. However, Corinthians did not panic and another well worked play saw Adam through on goal, where he scored form a tight angle.

The second half was all Corinthians, they dominated possession, they controlled the pace and Greenwood could do nothing but defend. With constant pressure being applied a fabulous run by Fionn Molloy split the defence and he hit a lovely shot to the bottom corner. This was quickly followed by another, a lay off by Adam saw a superb finish by Conor Murphy to the roof of the net, reminiscent of his goal last year.

Corinthians continued to press with Adam Idah scoring from close range and Scott Philpott scoring directly from a free. Greenwood had 1 attack in the second half. From the resulting corner Leo Barron broke with pace and power, looking like he had lost the ball in the centre circle, he regained possession and drove on to the edge of the area from where he picked his spot and finished to the corner.

Adam Idah wasn’t finished yet, adding 2 more goals to put the team in great form heading into the Christmas break.

The Management team would like to thank all the parents and supporters for all their help and support so far this season and would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New year.

U14 Cors Boys A 3 Mayfield 2

Corinthians started slowly and went a goal behind in the fifteenth minute when they failed to close down Mayfield's mid-fielder who hammered the ball past Max White. Corinthians were finding it hard to get going against a strong breeze and Mayfield were full value for their half time lead. The lads upped their game in the second half and began to put the Mayfield defence under pressure but they went 2 down after Mayfield caught them on the counter attack.

A beautifully struck free kick by Ben Lucey made it 2-1 with 12 minutes to go. Man of the Match Lucey set up Andrew Kelleher for the equaliser 5 minutes from the end and Lucey struck again in the dying minutes from another free kick to complete a brilliant come back.

Division 3

Youghal Utd.  1  Cor Boys A  2

Corinthian boys took all 3 points in this hard fought division 3 game. The first goal came from a nice move by Luke Wade whose good play down the right wing led to a pulled back pass the ball meeting Harvey Cummins great run thru the centre and excellent finish. Youghal equalised with a late first half penalty a desion that surprised so say the least. James Adireran got the winner ten minutes into the second half and while Youghal had a lot of possession in the last 20 minutes the Cors defence were not tested except from a few long range efforts

Division 1

Riverstown/Brooklodge 1 Corinthians A 0

We simply cannot buy a goal lately as we completely dominated the game throughout and never deserved to be beaten.

Chance after chance came our way and with a small piece of good fortune we could have at least shared the points.Combinations of goal line clearance, goalpost and the Riverstown goalkeeper ensured it was not to be Cors day.All the boys must be complimented for their efforts as nobody had a bad game especially Paul Mc Glone, Colm Power and Aaron Purcell who on another day would surely have found the net several times.
