Corinthian Boys A 1 Corinthian Boys B 0
This eagerly awaited cup tie eventually got the go-ahead and despite the heavy conditions both teams played some attractive football in an exciting hard fought encounter. The A team had 2 early chances to take the lead but James Kelly made 2 fine saves from Andrew Greany and David Cotter. The B team grew in confidence and created 2 chances before half time when shots from David Osborne and Piarse O' Halloran just went over the bar.
The A team started to get on top in the second half and created some good scoring chances but they were denied on each occasion by man of the match, James Kelly. Corinthian Boys 2 Carrigaline Utd. 1
In an absorbing cup tie played at a frenetic pace throughout, Corinthians squeezed past Carrigaline with a 95th minute winner from a Ciaran Couch free kick.
In truth it was a game that could have gone either way as there was nothing between the sides and it looked like penalty kicks were looming until Couch’s winner. Donagh Gribbons had given Corinthians the advantage early in the second half but a deflected Alex Byrne shot leveled the tie shortly afterwards. Byrne nearly repeated the trick early in the first period of extra time when his deflected shot produced a magnificent save from Corinthians net minder Dave O’ Keeffe.
This save paved the way for Corinthians winning goal five minutes from the end of extra time.
