Corinthians Seniors through to semi final of FAI Intermediate Cup

FAI Intermediate Cup ¼ final

Everton 0  College Corinthians 3

Played in extremely difficult conditions with ferocious winds and pelting rain for much of the contest, Corinthians turned in a great team performance to book their place in the semi final of the FAI Intermediate Cup.

Playing against the elements in the first half Corinthians defended well with centre backs James Furlong and Ricky o’ Sullivan very solid and full backs Brian Cotter and Peter Moreland always an outlet. In central midfield Cian Murphy and Cannice Caffrey were also doing well and if anything despite playing against a virtual storm, it was Corinthians who created the better opportunities.

With the wind to their backs in the second half Corinthians were now very much on top and they went in front ten minutes into the second period when Cian Murphy broke from midfield and fired an unstoppable shot from 25 yards beyond the reach of the diving Everton keeper. To their credit Everton raised their game and forced a couple of corners bit it was Corinthians who were to strike again ten minutes from time when James Furlong was on hand to apply the finishing touch following a Willie Heffernan free kick.

With time almost up Corinthians nade it 3-0 when Ron Stanton who had worked tirelessly all day along with fellow front and wide players Evan Browne, Willie Heffernan and Aidan O’ Mahony;  scored direct from a free kick

An excellent team performance and all eyes will now be on the semi final draw when hopefully we will get a home draw.
