Cors Under 14P lose out to excellent St. Joseph Boys side

St. Joseph Boys (DDSL)  3  Corinthian Boys 0

Corinthian Boys Under 14 Premier squad suffered the heartbreak of losing out in the final of the National Cup for the second year in succession when an excellent St. Joseph Boys side proved too strong for our lads. On the day Joeys were exceptional and had power and pace that was too much for our lads. Our lads were brillant on the day but it was just not enough, they tried their hearts out, gave it everything they had but against physically more powerful players it was just beyond them.

Corinthians started the game better and had an early chance from a corner when an Eoin Redmond header flew just over. It was slightly against the run of play when Joeys opened the scoring after 10 minutes, it came after some fine play  with the overlapping left full back scoring with a superb strike from the edge of the area. Corinthians were still very much in the game but the second goal was a killer coming from a corner with the linesman deeming the ball had crossed the line. Just before the break it was 3-0  when the right winger got in behind our defence before finishing strongly. Despite these setbacks to our eternal credit our lads never threw in the towel and created some half chances of their own but just could not get the breakthrough goal that might have changed the trend of the game at any stage.

The second half was more even with chances at bith ends but Joeys were in control and no matter how hard we tried and how much we lifted our game we couldn't get back into the contest and Joseph Boys ran out deserving winners.

Tremendous credit must go to our Mgt trio of Mark, Craig and John, to all our players, our parents and families, it has been a tremendous journey over the last two years and it has taken an exceptional St. Joseph Boys side to beat us, we can hold our heads up high, the lads have done themselves, their families and Cork soccer proud.

Congratulations to St. Joeph Boys, to win a National title three years in a row is an exceptional achievement, a big thank you to the Cork Schoolboys League, it was fantastic to see three finals in Cork and Cobh was a great setting for the games with a great atmosphere. Finally a big thank you to everyone who travelled to Cobh to support the team, your support was greatly appreciated.
