Overall Awards
Schoolboy Player Of The Year – Craig Donellan
It was certainly a year to remember for Craig as he captained the Corinthian Boys Under 16 squad to a league and cup double for the 5th year in a row marking the team down as one of the finest to play schoolboy football in Cork in recent years.
He was also an integral part of the Cork Schoolboys League team that defeated Kildare 2-0 in the All Ireland final to win the Inter League title for the third year in a row.
Craig has been a an ever present in the Irish National squad for the last three years and he was selected this year for the Irish Under 17 squad to take part in the European Qualifiers in Macedonia in October. Craig played ninety minutes in all three games as Ireland finished top of the group with Sweden after drawing 1-1 with the Swedes and defeating Macedonia 4-1 and Romania 2-0.
These fine achievements were recognised by the Cork Schoolboys League when he was named Cork Schoolboys League Overall Schoolboy Player of the Year for season 2011/12.
Schoolgirl Player Of the Year – Megan Connolly
Megan had a fantastic year scoring a bucket load of goals as Corinthians under 16 and 18 girls teams won their respective league and cup doubles and the Under 18 Munster Youth Cup Megan was also part of the Cork squad which won the Gaynor Cup for the first time in a number of years.
Megan's outstanding performances were recognised by the Irish under 17 team management when she was chosen to play in two friendly games against Denmark, Megan captained the Irish team in the second game but it was in the opening encounter against the Danes that she really made her presence elt when she scored both goals in a two nil win.
As a result of these fine performances, Megan was selected for the Irish squad for the Euro Qualifiers in Belarus and further goals followed as the Irish team won all three games against Finland, Belarus and Georgia to top their group. What made these achievements that Megan is actually playing a year out of her age and will be underage for the Irish team again next season.
