Street League Finals Day 2010

A very enjoyable family day

Fantastic Day for the Club

The Street League Finals Day took place this year on Sunday June 13th , the day is always the highlight of the schoolboy season in Corinthians and this year proved no exception with nearly 300 boys and girls taking part ranging in ages from under 5 to under 10.

The action began early with the under eights kicking off proceedings at 10am and continued non stop until the Presentation Ceremony at 2.30pm. There was some fantastic football played with a high level of skill on display but most of all one couldn't but be impressed by the tremendous enthusiasm of the young boys and girls.. The great thing was that win or lose everyone was a winner on the day.

Under 5

The "fab" 5's were looked after on the day by Ciaran Desmond, Donnacha Ryan, John O' Brien and John Tobin and many others and the kids had a great time. Many thanks to all the lads involved and we look forward to seeing all the kids back again next year when they graduate to the ripe old age of under 6.

Under 6

The Under 6's have been running their own Street League for the last six or seven weeks and this culminated in three separate finals on Sunday. Spurs, Chelsea and Cork City were to emerge victorious but in reality everyone played fantastic on the day. Special thanks to the young coaches; Dylan Cruise O' Shea, Kevin O' Sullivan, Conor Kenny, Eoghan Corcoran who helped out through out the season.

Under 7

The under 7 league had provided some great action over the previous eight weeks and the three finals certainly lived up to the standard that had been set during the league stages. Inter Milan with Ian Turnbull, Robert Geaney O' Brien, Kevin Moran, Toby O' Brien and Mathew Healy in outstanding form proved too strong for a gallant Roma side who had top class performers in Cian O' Leary, Daragh Egan,  Dylan O' Hare, Alex Lane and George Comber.

Deportivo were in sparkling form as they got the better of Valencia in the second final, Ben Mc Garry, Eoin Redmond, Mark Redmond , Luke Buckley and David Ruddock were the stars for Deportivo, Mark Harrington, Daniel Squires, Daniel Meade and Michael O' Reilly did well for Valencia. Finally Red Star Belgrade squeezed past Olympiakos in the Bowl final, David O' Sullivan, Shane Cotter, Michael Nason, Ethan O' Mahony and Joe Harte were the pick of the Red Star side with Andrew O' Brien , Brandon Idah, Roger Timmons, David Molloy, John Cronin and Diarmuid Desmond superb for Olympiakos.

Under 8

The under eight league had also been running for the previous eight weeks and it too had produced some high quality action. Benfica and Dynamo Kiev had set the pace through out the league stages and it came as no surprise when the two sides qualified for the final. It turned out to be an absolute cracker with the teams sharing six goals before Benfica emerged victorious in a thrilling penalty shoot out. David Cotter, Jeff Holden, Sean Dunlea, James Kelly and Luke Horgan shone for Benfica while Mark Hill, Leo Barron, Joseph Lombard, David Fox, David Osborne and Liam Edwards were outstanding for Dynamo Kiev.

AC Milan proved too strong for Sporting Lisbon in the Plate Final with Brian Lagrue, Max White, Fionn Molloy, Sean Browne and Rory Moriarty doing well and Sporting had excellent performers in Robbie Shalloe, Luke Healy, David Murphy, Alexander Harly, Joseph Harte and Cillian Walsh. In the Bowl final Real Madrid came from behind to get the better of Spartak Moscow 4-3. Oisin O' Keeffe, James Gillespie, Daniel Harte, Brian Hayes and Adam Forde were the pick of the Real side and for Spartak; Tadgh O' Sullivan, Shane Connor, Alex Prince, Ben Lucey and Scott Philpott were the star players.

Under 9

Athletico Madrid skippered by Rory Doyle emerged victorious in the all Spanish under 9 final as they got the better of Barcelona on a 2-0 score line. Juventus proved too strong for Bayern Munich in the Plate final and Lyon after a titanic struggle piped Lazio on penalties in the Bowl Final

Under 10

The under Ten's ran off a blitz for the day and it was the Natterjack Toads who took the honours defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in an exciting final with the Penguins coming back from 3-0 down and missing chances to force penalties. Skipper Christian Begley, Cillian Desmond, Brian Hill and Joe Cremin did well for the winners, James O' Donovan, Karl Hide, Brian Horan and Brian Turnbull did well for the losers.

Penalty Competitions

The Penalty competitions as usual provided great entertainment and special thanks to Club goalkeepers Stephen Jermyn (11), Gerard O' Connell (12), Mathew O' Mahony (12) and Eoin O' Sullivan (13) among many others who helped out on the day

Special Thanks

Special thanks to everyone who helped in the preparation for the finals day

The ladies Committee who put in tremendous work behind the scenes in basically organising everything bar the football, we would be lost without them.

All our coaches who gave their time during the year, again without their interest and commitment the Club could not cater for so many kids.

Brendan Murphy, Mike Tobin, Grounds man Denis Barry and everyone else who made sure that the facilities were in superb condition on the day

The Adult and Schoolboys & Schoolgirls coaches who came up to help on the day

Our Schoolboys League players; Bryan Cotter (11), Ross Welch (11), Craig Donnellan (13) and Ian Tobin (15) who came up to help with the presentation.

Congratulations

Finally congratulations to all the kids who took part both on the day ad throughout the leagues, hopefully everyone enjoyed their season in Corinthians.
