Murphy Cup glory for Youth Team
College Corinthians 4 Douglas Hall 3
In a fantastic Cup final which was in doubt right up to the final whistle our under 18 Premier squad just got the better of local rivals Douglas Hall. Both sides deserve great credit for serving up such an enjoyable contest with which could have gone either way but Corinthians were thrilled to have caotured such a prestigious and historic trophy.
Great credit is due to the management team of Richie Kenny and Tony Noonan and to the squad of players many of whom have been with the Club since they were six years of age.
This has been the most successful team the Club has ever had; they won every league and cup title available to them in the schoolboys league from under 11 to under 16 and they followed last year with two cup wins at under 17 and despite losing half their squad to Cork City, Cobh Ramlers, Cork Minor Hurlers, Irish Hockey squads etc they still came back this season to win another cup title. Hopefully this squad of players will provide the base for some of our adult teams for years to come.
The game itself saw Douglas Hall race into an early lead but Corinthians recovered well and goals from Shane Daly Butz and Alex O' Sullivan had Corinthians in front before. If the first half was exciting the second half was even better with Douglas Hall levelled matter Just after half time; Stephen Christopher restoring Corinthians advantage before Douglas Hall drew level again from the penalty spot. Finally just as it looked as if the game was heading for extra time super sub Cathal Dold fired home the winner.
Conngrats again to all convened
