Fantastic week for former Corinthians Star Adam Idah
It has been an incredible week for two former Corinthian Schoolboy stars; twenty four hours after David Meyler had captained the Irish Senior team to victory in Wales and a place in the World Cup playoffs, sixteen year old Adam Idah started for the Irish Under 17 team in the Euro Qualifiers in Bulgaria and what a week it turned out to be for young Adam.
Both Adam and David started playing schoolboy football with Corinthians as six year olds, David in 1995, Adam in 2007; I am sure Adam has watched David's carerr closely over the years and dreamed of one day following in his footsteps and playing for Ireland. David reached the ultimate pinnacle for any footballer last week when he captained the Irish Senior team in World Cup qualifying games against Moldova and Wales. As if inspired by his fellow Corinthian schoolboy, Adam set out to make his own mark on international soccer this week.
Adam was in Bulgaria playing for the Irish Under 17's in Euro Qualifiers, the Irish team took on Azerbaijan, Bulgaria and Ukraine and what a week it turned out to be. The Irish squad opened with a spectacular 6-0 victory over Azerbaijan with Adam scoring a hat trick. He followed up scoring twice against the hosts Bulgaria as Ireland won 3-0 and then to the group decider as Ireland came from behind to defeat Ukraine 3-1 with Adam scoring another two making it an incredible seven goals for Adam in three games. Truly an extroardinary performance and one which everyone in Corinthians and at Adam's new Club Norwich City would be extremely proud of. I am sure David and Adam would be the first to wish two further Corinthian players the best of luck this weekend with Alex Healy Byrne turning out with the Irish Under 14's and Mathew Healy heading to Northern Ireland to play in the Victory Shield with the Republic Of Ireland Under 16 squad.
