Fantastic Week For Corinthians Under 13A Squad
It was aweek to remember for the Corinthians Under 13A squad as they completed a unique League and Cup Double in the space of three days last week. It started on Tuesday night in the Founders Cup final against Mallow Utd. To get to the final Corinthians had played four games in eight days qualifying for the final courtesy of a penalty shoot out victory over Kinsale A.
The fanal was played in Rockmount Park on a beautiful summers evening and the game did not disappoint. Played before a large crowd it was a thriller from start to finish with Mallow starting like an express train and jumping ahead after 15 minutes. At this stage Corinthians were hanging on and could easily have been further behind but to their credit they lifted their performance following Mallow's goal and got back into the game five minutes before the break when Sam Allman Walsh scored with a fine strike from the edge of the area.
The second period produced more of the same with Corinthians generally on top but Mallow always dangerous on the break. With no further goals the game went into extra time and 5 minutes into the first period it was Corinthians who jumped in front when the outstanding Alex Walsh scored from the edge of the area. However showing real grit and determination, Mallow fought bacjk and equalised early in the second period of extra time. Despite further end to end action there was no furter scoring and the game went to the dreaded penaltioes where Corinthians got over the line winning 5-3. It was very harsh on Mallow who had contributed so much to a truly memorable contest.
It was a little more straightforward on Friday night as Corinthians were presented with the Division 2 league title following a comfortable victory over Buttevant. Having lost only one game all season the title was well deserved and promotes the squad to Division One for next sesson. Having lost the services of five regular players at the start of the season, this has been a great effort by the entire squad, special thanks to Donnacha Ryan and our Division 5 squad who generously allowed two of their players to join the 13A squad at the start of the season and the two lads were outstanding all year. Well done to the all concerned, the successful squad was
Adam Young, Alex Walsh, Alan O' Connor, Ben Lynch, Daniel Walsh, Darren Sheehan, Fiachra Twohig, Gary Farkes, Liam Mc Grath, Max Healy, Sam Allman Walsh, Stephen Samuel, Tom O' Mahony, Tom Higgins, Ugo Okankwo
