Douglas Community Games Coaching Team Grateful for Support.
On behalf of the Community Games coaching team, we would like to acknowledge the efforts of those that helped out during the campaign. The competition rules are different in that players had to be under 12 on the 1st August 2014 and had to reside within a defined map of Douglas. This meant that we drew players from the three under 12 teams from last season as well as the Under 11s and Under 10s – two Under 10 players started in the final and all players played in every game (you can rotate players on and off). In addition we had five players who were winning their second national title in Community Games – having played with Douglas in the gaelic football equivalent in 2012.
The entry fee is not cheap so we would like to firstly acknowledge Tesco Douglas who allowed us to raise funds by bag-packing and also members from other teams that turned up on the day to assist (Adam Idah, Jack McFall, David Fox, Ronan O’Callaghan,David Welch, Sean Cantillon, Joe Harte, Sean O’Cathain, Ian Turnbull, Jennifer Barron, Jenny Wall and others). We also wish to thank AIB and Bank Of Ireland who provided sponsorship and Welch Sports for providing gear in the county colours. We need to thank College Corinthians for providing training facilities and footballs and the U12A team who provided opposition in two friendlies. Also Steve Bermingham who organised team entry.
We also need to acknowledge all of the parents who brought the lads to games in Churchfield, Mallow, Limerick and Athlone (Kanturk doesn’t seem so far anymore!). Finally a huge thank you to 15 marvellous players who performed heroically over seven tough games. They showed buckets of character when their backs were to the wall in both games over the weekend. As Cormac said last night, they were a pleasure to coach and they all have a bright future ahead. The club and the area should be proud of them
Cormac, Michael & Adrian.
