Douglas Under 12’s win All Ireland Title
Having defeated the Leinster Champions Lucan 3-0 in the semi finals on Saturday, Galway side Clarinbridge stood between Douglas and an All Ireland title, they had impressed in their 2-1 victory in the semi final against the Ulster champions St. Patricks so the final was always going to be closeand so it proved.
In the end it was decided by a single goal which came midway through the second half from Daniel Squires; a sperb strike on the turn which flew in off the underside of the crossbar. this was the highlight of a tremendous team performance from everyone involved. They had to battle all the way to the final whistle but guided and encouraged by their coaches and supporters they showed great heart to hold on for a fabulous victory. It would be impossible to pick out any player from the squad as every player made an outstanding contribution but the defence does deserve special mention as they conceeded one goal in their seven matches on route to the title and that was a penalty
Congratulations to their coaches Cormac Cotter, Michael Nason and Adrian O' Leary and to all players and the families involved, several families broke up their holidays to make themselves available for the finals weekend and they deserve all the plaudits that come their way. Well done also to Corinthian Boys who provided the entire squad for the successful Douglas team.
