A “Devine” win for the Juniors against Douglas Hall

The game started with great pace and on a rainy October night under the lights it had the feel of a classic. It didn't take long for Corinthians to take the lead. Cian Devine did well to shrug off his marker in the corner before running into the box and curling his shot from a very tight angle high into the net. It wasn't long after that when the ball fell to Eoin McCarthy in the box from a corner and he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Douglas Hall grabbed two goals back after 30mins, one being a penalty. Just before Half time David McCarthy was taken down by the Hall 'keeper inside the box but Ian Tobin was unable to convert to spot kick and the sides went in level at the break.

The Second half started much the same as the first, a high intensity level of play from both sides and lots of grit and determination.  After 15 mins of the Second half Cian Devine went through and from another tough angle found the net with a tidy finish from 12 yards out.

Douglas Hall were reduced to 10 men with 20/25 mins to go. Jack French and John Quirke kept things tight in the middle of the Park while the back line of Richie Cronin, Ian Lynch, Ronan Whyte and Ian Tobin were calm and collected and broke the homesides attacks down at every opportunity.

With 5 mins to go a long ball from the back was controlled out and away from the defender by Cian Devine and on the half volley fired a shot right into the top corner for his Hattrick!! A loss on concentration in the last few moments of the match gave Douglas Hall a third goal but Corinthians held out and got a deserved win and a big three points from the big local derby!
