Corinthians Under 15P win local Cup
Corinthians completed the league and Cup double with another terrific team performance. Congratulations to all the players and the management team of Kevin Ronayne, John Forest and Michael Baron on a truly memorable season.
Corinthian Boys 3 Carrigaline Utd. 0
At a very wet O'Shea Park in Blarney the U15 Premier team completed a League and Cup Double for the 3rd time in 4 years.. Playing a high tempo and committed game, they completely outclassed their opposition, Carrigaline.
Setting the tone from the start, the midfield of Fionn Molloy and Adam Hunt, dominated midfield never letting their opponents time on the ball. Carrigaline were on the defensive immediately with chances falling to a number of Corinthian players who did everything but score. Alex Minihane led the line with pace and power and was ably assisted by Adam Idah, Ricardo Dinanga and Daragh Connell.
It took until the 18th minute for Corinthians to eventually break the deadlock, Adam Idah cut in from the right wing, shooting with his left & sent it sailing past the keeper. Corinthians kept up the pressure and some goo team work and inter-passing led to another goal from Adam Idah just before half time.
The second half continued in much the same vein, with Corinthians dominating possession aided superbly by their defence, all of whom made a major contribution on the night, Dean Harte, Sean Dunlea, Scott Philpott and Jack McFall. We are happy to report Jack has recovered fully from a knock to the head which resulted in him being substituted. Such was the ability and dominance of the defence, Matthew O'Connor only had one save to make in the entire game but adds huge stability and confidence to the defence.
The subs on the night also played a major part when they came on, maintaining the high tempo and forcing Carrigaline back at every opportunity. Some great runs by Jeff Holden and Leo Barron caused concern in the Carrigaline defence with Liam Edwards making some great passes.
Adam Hunt sealed victory with a fine half volley to the roof of the net with 15 minutes to go, to cap a fine performance on the night.
It is also important to mention 2 members of the squad that didn't manage to get on the pitch last night, Cathal Hynes, our reserve keeper and David Fox, who is recovering from a serious injury.
A special mention for a special player, Adam Idah, this guy continues to clock up achievement after achievement and we are very lucky to have such a player in our squad. He is a the current Irish Under 15 centre forward who last week had the honour and distinction of not only being called up to the Irish U16 panel for a tournament in Hungary but starting 2 of their 3 games. He got a great write up on the FAI website for performance.. The Irish Team won the Tournament
Adam played in 3 of the last 4 local cup finals, winning he Man of the Match in each one, as he did last night. There is tremendous interest in Adam form across the Channel and we hope this is not the last time we see Adam in a Corinthians jersey in a final.
Finally on behalf of the Management, we would like to thank all the parents for the support, commitment and dedication during a long protracted season. We do have one league game left, still to be fixed.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the Night at the Dogs on the 20th May.
