Great week for Club Click here to view this weeks photos
College Corinthians AFC A fantastic week for the Club which saw our schoolboys and schoolgirl teams appear in six cup finals, all six teams performed with great credit and gave their all for their Club and we were fortunate enough to win four of the six finals. The finals provided fantastic entertainment and on behalf of the Club I would like to thank the Cork Schoolboys and Girls leagues for the tremendous effort they put in organizing the finals. Everything was top class and the kids win or lose had the time of their lives. Local Cup Finals Under 11 Corinthians Boys met Ballincollig in the U11 Local Cup final on a drizzly Tuesday night at Turners cross. The game sprung into action with a second-minute opener from Ballincollig. Next, Corinthians captain Dean Swords shot wide to the right after Ballincollig failed to clear their lines. An opportunity fell to the green and whites but Stephen Jermyn made a quick reflex save and knocked the ball onto the post before rolling back into his arms. The defence were coming under more pressure but Daniel Cullen, Sean Desmond and Jack Murray cleared their lines ably. Just approaching the half time whistle, Ross Welch struck a glorious 18 yard injury time effort direct to the roof of the net after David J O'Regans cross. All level at the interval. After Ballincollig were on top for the first half, Corinthians turned the tide and dominated the second. Colin O'Brien and David Dalton linked up well to cause Ballincollig trouble. The Ballincollig keeper saved well from an excellent effort from David Lynch. Extra time ensued and Harry Shanahans scored Corinthians second, prodding home after a frantic goal mouth scramble inside the six yard box in the first period, Ballincollig equalised in the second. Daragh Kelly, Mark O'Leary, Sam Meely and Daithi O'Regan came on to re-energise the blue and whites. It seemed a penalty shoot out was envitable until Bryan Cotter incredibly notched the winner for Corinthians with just four minutes remaining. Unfortunately, sixteen players could only be used and Gavin Holland and Mikey Doherty were very unlucky to miss out. Commiserations to Ballincollig who were fantastic on the night. Under 12 Mayfield Utd. 2 CorinthiansBoys 0 Our Under 12's played superbly against Mayfield and on another day could easily have won this final. They played football throughout and worked their socks off and what more can you ask. The game was in the melting pot until 15 minutes from time when the Mayfield centre forward turned sharply and scored with a superb strike from the edge of the area. Our lads pushed hard for an equalizer but it would not come and in injury time Mayfild added a second. Everyone was brilliant for Corinthians on the night and they can hold their heads up high. Congratulations to Mayfield, well done lads. Nufarm Ath. 3 Corinthian Boys B 0 The Under 12B team played Nufarm away on Sunday. Result Nufarm 3, College Cors U12B 0. Corinthians conceded an early goal after 8 minutes and a second after 15 minutes. Corinthians battled well through out the game, but found it difficult to break down a physically stronger Nufarm. Corinthians conceded a third late on. Paul O'Mahony, William O'Byrne, Cormac Hennessy and Richie Hurley played well for Corinthians. Under 13 Corinthian Boys 1 Springfield Ramblers 0 Corinthians completed the Premier League and Cup double when they squeezed past a very determined Cobh side. Alex O' Sullivan scored the crucial goal midway through the first half and Corinthians with the back four of Shane Daly, Dylan Walsh, Ben Mc Cauliffe and Alex Burns superb, held off a spirited late challenge from Cobh top claim the cup. Well done to the coaching team of Richie Kenny, Tony Noonan, Bill Daly and Pat Kearney and the entire squad on a fantastic which saw them win all 26 games they played in Cork with their only defeat of the season coming away to St Kevins Boys in the National Cup going down 2-1 after extra time. Commiserations to Springfield Ramblers who true to their tradition gave everything on the night. Under 14 Leeds 3 Corinthian Boys 1 Leeds got the better of Corinthians in this very exciting local Cup final. Leeds sharpness in front of goal proved the difference as Corinthians who enjoyed much of the possession found it hard to penetrate a very strong Leeds defence. Daragh Kiely scored for Corinthians and on the night everyone gave their all but it just wasn't meant to be. Nevertheless despite the disappointment the lads have had a great season finishing runners up in both the league and local cup and playing some great football in the process. Well done to the management team of Len Hackett, Jim O' Mahony and Stephen Murphy and to the entire squad on a great season. Congratulations to Leeds on a well deserved success. Under 15 Corinthian Boys 3 Ringmahon Rangers 2 These two sides have been going hammer and tongs against each other all season on all fronts and they provided a classic final. The game swung from end to end with both sides having their periods of domination. In the end it was Corinthians who prevailed with Eric O' Connor scoring the winner with five minutes to go. Earlier Conor Cannon and Ian Tobin with the goal of the week foloowinf a fine sweeping move involving Conor Cannon and Brian Lenihan. Well done again to the coaching team of Mike Tobin and Peter Cannon and to the entire squad. Commiserations to Ringmahon Rangers who were excellent on the night. League Action Under 11 Corinthian Boys 1 Rockmount 1 This match was a real end of season affair, with both clubs little to play for on a very hot Saturday morning. Rockmount were the first to score in the first half but Corinthians had more of the clearer chances from Colin O'Brien and David Lynch. Mark O'Leary, Daithi O'Regan and Daragh Kelly were plaing well for the home side. Mid way through the second half, Colin O'Brien, slid the ball through to Gavin Holland whose shot at goal was blocked by the keeper. Sam Meely followed through on the rebound to make it one all. The game ended all square Corinthians Boys A 1 Glounthaune Utd. 1 Corinthian Boys B 5 Greenwood A 2 Corinthian Boys B maintained their challenge for league honours with a fine victory over a very gallant Greenwood side. Corinthians had to come from behind to claim the points with Mathew Mc Cauliffe (2), Joe Duggan, Alex Chandler and Rory Murphy scoring for Corinthians. Brian Turnbull, Daniel Hurley and Cian Baldwin did well for Corinthians, Lakewood 0 Coronthian Boys C 5 The sun shone brightly for Corinthians as they collected another three away points in a game that was played in a very sporting manner by both sides. There was no doubting Corinthians strength in all areas of the park and that gave them the platform to maintain a sustained attack on the Lakewood goal. Two goals from Brian Hil and one from David O'Sullivan gave Corinthians a well deserved three nil lead at half-time. Eoin Murphy and Ethan Hurley did a tremendous job in midfield by winning the ball and using it to great effect down both flanks. Wingers, David Harrington & Bryan Hill, worked extremely hard and were a constant threat throughout brining brought both full backs, John Weir and Dylan Ward into the game on many occasions. The continual hard work of the Team was admirable to watch in such very warm conditions and was rewarded when Corinthians were able to add another four goals in the second half, one each from Eoin Davis and Christian Begley and two from David O'Sullivan to make his hat-trick. Centre backs Ciaran Couch and James O'Donovan were solid at the back as usual with David Nason doing equally well. Under 12 Corinthian Boys 0 Ballincollig 2 Following their cup final defeat, Corinthians returned to league action and took on League champions in waiting Ballincollig. Again they performed with great credit and matched the league leaders in all facets of the game for 55 minutes. But as so often this season it was Ballincollig who made the breakthrough when a cross cum shot dropped over goalkeeper Gerard O' Connell into the net. Ballincollig added a second in injury time. It was heartbreaking for our lads who will drop down to Division One following this result. Having lost six players last summer they have worked their socks off all season and if ever a team deserved better this one did, hopefully they will stick together and will be backing fighting for promotion next season. Well done to the coaching team of Aidan Lougheed, Ger Murphy and Fred Baldwin and to the entire squad. Under 13 Wilton 0 Corinthian Boys A 1 Corinthian Boys A secured promotion to Division 1 with this fine away win over Wilton. Luke Harris, Daniel Kingston, Ciian O' Regan, Mark Purcell and Mathew O' mahony were superb for Corinthians. Under 15 Springfield Ramblers 1 Corinthian Boys 3 Corinthians completed their league campaign with a fine 3-1 away victory over Springfield Ramblers. Kevin Byrne, David Barrett, Eoin Baldwin and James Daly were excellent for Corinthians on the night. |
