Cors come from behind to secure victory and the title against a gallant Ballinhassig side
Corinthian Boys B 4 Ballinhassig 2 Corinthians Boys B kicked off on Tuesday night against Ballinhassig needing only a point from the game to secure the U11 Division 5 league title. Ballinhassig were out of the blocks quickest, finding the net in the first couple of minutes. Corinthians regrouped quickly and remained calm playing good passing football. Both teams defended well and counter attacked but it was Corinthians who looked more likely to score midway through the half. Conor Shalloe eventually broke the deadlock after a goalmouth scramble. A few minutes later Corinthians got their second with a fine strike from Stephen Fox after some good interlinking play between Alex Chandler, Mark Brosnan and Joe Duggan. The back four of Holland, Baldwin, Turnbill and Grace, with Matthew McAuliffe just in front were tireless keeping Ballinhassig at bay. Joe Duggan got Corinthians third, tapping in at the far post on the end of a superb strike by Sean Grace from well outside the area. The second half began as the first finished with Corinthians pushing forward. Joe Duggan looked very threatening up front, while James Holland Stephen Fox and Conor Shalloe linked well to provide numerous through balls. Conor Shalloe got Corinthians fourth after a long range strike from Matthew McAuliffe. The introduction of Brian Harnett, Davie Scott, George Bakhturidze and Daniel Hurley got fresh legs on the pitch as a warm evening took its toll. Ballinhassig seemed to get a resurgence of energy and pushed on, continuously pressuring Corinthians, forcing them on to the back foot. Their work and determination was rewarded with their second goal inside the final 10 minutes. Both sides played hard until the end of a good spirited match which was deserving of the top two teams in the division. It finished 4-2 earning Corinthians the points they need to clinch the title. . |
