u11 Local Cup Winners 2010 (Click here for more photos...)
A fantastic week for the Club which saw our schoolboys and schoolgirl teams appear in six cup finals, all six teams performed with great credit and gave their all for their Club and we were fortunate enough to win four of the six finals. 13's complete league and cup double The finals provided fantastic entertainment and on behalf of the Club I would like to thank the Cork Schoolboys and Girls leagues for the tremendous effort they put in organizing the finals. Everything was top class and the kids win or lose had the time of their lives. Local Cup Finals Under 11 Corinthians Boys met Ballincollig in the U11 Local Cup final on a drizzly Tuesday night at Turners cross. The game sprung into action with a second-minute opener from Ballincollig. Next, Corinthians captain Dean Swords shot wide to the right after Ballincollig failed to clear their lines. An opportunity fell to the green and whites but Stephen Jermyn made a quick reflex save and knocked the ball onto the post before rolling back into his arms. The defence were coming under more pressure but Daniel Cullen, Sean Desmond and Jack Murray cleared their lines ably. Just approaching the half time whistle, Ross Welch struck a glorious 18 yard injury time effort direct to the roof of the net after David J O'Regans cross. All level at the interval. After Ballincollig were on top for the first half, Corinthians turned the tide and dominated the second. Colin O'Brien and David Dalton linked up well to cause Ballincollig trouble. The Ballincollig keeper saved well from an excellent effort from David Lynch. Extra time ensued and Harry Shanahans scored Corinthians second, prodding home after a frantic goal mouth scramble inside the six yard box in the first period, Ballincollig equalised in the second. Daragh Kelly, Mark O'Leary, Sam Meely and Daithi O'Regan came on to re-energise the blue and whites. It seemed a penalty shoot out was envitable until Bryan Cotter incredibly notched the winner for Corinthians with just four minutes remaining. Unfortunately, sixteen players could only be used and Gavin Holland and Mikey Doherty were very unlucky to miss out. Commiserations to Ballincollig who were fantastic on the night. Under 12 Mayfield Utd. 2 CorinthiansBoys 0 Our Under 12's played superbly against Mayfield and on another day could easily have won this final. They played football throughout and worked their socks off and what more can you ask. The game was in the melting pot until 15 minutes from time when the Mayfield centre forward turned sharply and scored with a superb strike from the edge of the area. Our lads pushed hard for an equalizer but it would not come and in injury time Mayfild added a second. Everyone was brilliant for Corinthians on the night and they can hold their heads up high. Congratulations to Mayfield, well done lads. Under 13 Corinthian Boys 1 Springfield Ramblers 0 Corinthians completed the Premier League and Cup double when they squeezed past a very determined Cobh side. Alex O' Sullivan scored the crucial goal midway through the first half and Corinthians with the back four of Shane Daly, Dylan Walsh, Ben Mc Cauliffe and Alex Burns superb, held off a spirited late challenge from Cobh top claim the cup. Well done to the coaching team of Richie Kenny, Tony Noonan, Bill Daly and Pat Kearney and the entire squad on a fantastic which saw them win all 26 games they played in Cork with their only defeat of the season coming away to St Kevins Boys in the National Cup going down 2-1 after extra time. Commiserations to Springfield Ramblers who true to their tradition gave everything on the night. Under 14 Leeds 3 Corinthian Boys 1 Leeds got the better of Corinthians in this very exciting local Cup final. Leeds sharpness in front of goal proved the difference as Corinthians who enjoyed much of the possession found it hard to penetrate a very strong Leeds defence. Daragh Kiely scored for Corinthians and on the night everyone gave their all but it just wasn't meant to be. Nevertheless despite the disappointment the lads have had a great season finishing runners up in both the league and local cup and playing some great football in the process. Well done to the management team of Len Hackett, Jim O' Mahony and Stephen Murphy and to the entire squad on a great season. Congratulations to Leeds on a well deserved success. Under 15 Corinthian Boys 3 Ringmahon Rangers 2 These two sides have been going hammer and tongs against each other all season on all fronts and they provided a classic final. The game swung from end to end with both sides having their periods of domination. In the end it was Corinthians who prevailed with Eric O' Connor scoring the winner with five minutes to go. Earlier Conor Cannon and Ian Tobin with the goal of the week foloowinf a fine sweeping move involving Conor Cannon and Brian Lenihan. Well done again to the coaching team of Mike Tobin and Peter Cannon and to the entire squad. Commiserations to Ringmahon Rangers who were excellent on the night. |
