Street League Finals

The finals of the Winter Street Leagues took place over the weekend and provided some fantastic action and entertainment. There was some great team and individual performances and plenty of drama as the six individual finals each had their own tail to tele.

First up were the Under Sevens on Saturday with the Springfield Isotopes taking the honours in the main final as they got the better of Natal Sharks in a very tight final with Daniel Squires scoring the only goal. Daniel Meade, Shane Cotter, Diarmuid Desmond and Luke Buckley did well for the Isotopes while for Natal Ian Turnbull, Andrew O' Brien and Mathew Healy were the star performers. In other Under Seven finals the Miami Dolphins with Michael Nason, Ben Mc Garry and Cian O' Leary in great form proved too strong for a gallant Chicago Bears side in a penalty shoot out, Tomas Redmond, Sean Cantillon and Aaron Dineen did well for the Bears. Finally the Pittsburg Penguins got the better of the ACT Brumbees in a thrilling contest, Sean Fulton, Rhys Callinan and Daragh Egan were superb for the Penguins while Mark Redmond, George Mc Cumber and David O' Sullivan were excellent for the Brumbees.

It was the Harlem Globetrotters day in the Under 8 final as they turned in a sparkling performance to get the better of the Gladiators on a 5-1 scoreline. Brian Hayes, Conor Murphy, Daniel Harte, Sean Dunlea and Max White did well for the Globetrotters while despite their heavy defeat Niall Hartnett, Darren Finn, Andrew Geaney and Brian Kenneally did well for the Gladiators. The game of the day was the meeting of the Green Bay Packers and the Mighty Ducks which produced a nine goal feast with the Mighty Ducks prevailing on a 5-4 scoreline. Adam Idah, James Gillespie, Luke Healy and David Kenny were outstanding for the winners while Jeff Holden, Shane Connor, David Murphy and Scott Philpott did well for Green Bay. No less exciting was the final between the Natterjack Toads and the Dallas Cowboys with the Natterjacks staging a storming come back to draw level with the Cowboys before taking the spoils in a penalty shoot out. David Fox, Ruari Moriarty, Leo Barrett and Mark Hill were the driving forces behind the Natterjacks victory while Andrew Harly, Sean Browne, Oisin O' Keeffe and David Osborne did well for the gallant Cowboys.
