Everyone in the Club wishes david a speedy recovery
The very sad news arising out of last Sunday's Premier League clash between Sinderland and Manchester Utd. was that former Corinthians schoolboy star David Meyler had suffered a serious knee injury. Sussequent scans confirmed that David had suffered serious damage to his Cruciate and would be out of action for up to twelve months. It is a big blow for David given that he had just established himself in the Sunderland side and had been called into the Republic of Ireland training squad. However David is a fighter by nature and I am sure he will make a full recovery and will be back challenging for a place with Sunderland and the Irish senior squad. On behalf of everyone involved with Corinthians I would like to wish David a very speedy recovery David Meyler was named in the Republic Of Ireland senior squad for the first time this week when Giovanni Trapatoni included David in a 23 string squad for a week of training prior to some end of season international friendlies. It is justifiable reward for the former College Corinthians schoolboy star who has been in outstanding form Sunderland since making his debut against Blackburn over the Christmas holiday period. Best of Luck David from all at Corinthians Park. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/8428857.stm Former College Corinthians schoolboy star David Meyler became the first schoolboy player from Corinthians to play in the Premier League when he lined out for Sunderland in their 2-2 draw away to Blackburn on Monday December 28th. David joined Corinthians as a seven year old back in 1996 and progressed through the Club's underage coaching structure. His first games were in the Corinthian's Street Leagues and in the local Inter Club Southside Leagues where he immediately impressed with his superb athleticism and natural ability. David became an integral part of an outstanding Corinthians schoolboy side which was to remain unbeaten locally for a period of six years winning the League and Cup double in the Cork Schoolboys League at Under 11, 12 and 13 age levels. Four of that squad went onto play for the Republic Of Ireland at various levels with goalkeeper David Bevan signing for Aston Villa in the summer of 2004. David was part of the Cork Schoolboys League side which won the All Ireland Inter League title in 2005 defeating the DDSL in the final and in the same year David moved from Corinthians to League Of Ireland Club Cobh Ramblers before joining Cork City the following season. Over the years David had impressed many a cross channel scout and after several trials it came as no surprise when David eventually signed for Sunderland in the summer of 2008. He has made rapid progress at Sunderland culminating in manager Steve Bruce giving David his debut against Blackburn. From all reports David made an outstanding debut and the headline in the Irish Examiner's report on the match read "Bruce hails Meyler on first Black Cats (Sunderland) start" If David maintains his current rate of progress then I am sure it won't be long before he receives a call up from Giovanni Trappatoni for the Irish senior squad, David has been capped by the Republic Of Ireland at Under 19 and Under 21 level and hopefully it won't be too long before he joins the senior squad. This is all in the future but for now on behalf of the Club I would like to pass on congratulations to David and his family and to wish David all the best for the rest of the season. |
