National Cup Update. Under 11 Clonmel Town 1 Corinthian Boys 2 Corinthians advanced to the last 16 of the national Cup with an excellent away victory over Clom,el Town. It was a compelling contest which in truth could have gone either way but for their drive and determination Corinthians just about deserved the victory. Corinthians travelled away to Clonmel for a 1 O'Clock kick off. Clonmel Town with their robust style started the better team. Stephen Jermyn in goal and Daniel Cullen and David O'Regan in defence kept them at bay. Dean Swords with a man of the match display terrorised Clonmel down the left. The breakthrough for Corinthians came with minutes remaining in the first half. Colin O'Brien linked up with Ross Welch who played a slide rule pass to David Dalton who calmly slotted it past the keeper. Clonmel upped their game in the second half but Corinthians had some star performers in Harry Shanahan, Sean Desmond and Jack Murray. Clonmel levelled with a well taken free kick which was headed into goal. Corinthians never gave up though and were ahead again when Ross Welch sent in an excellent corner for Bryan Cotter to head home. The last ten minutes were nerve wracking but Corinthians held on and move through to the last 16. Under 16 Fairview Rangers 4 Corinthian Boys 0 Corinthians bowed out of the Under 16 National Cup in disappointing fashion when they well beaten by top Limerick side Fairview Rangers. Little went right on the day as a series of defensive errors gifted Fairview their foals. At the other Evan Browne will wonder what he had to do to score as he hit the Fairview woodwork three occasions. So a day to forget for Corinthians but the lads can hold their heads up high, they are having an excellent season and are well capable of putting this reverse behind them |
