Under 18 Premier squad win Youth League Cup Final in thrilling style
A great night for our under 18 Premier squad as they captured the Youth League Cup after an exciting 4-2 victory over old rivals Ringmahon Rangers in Turners Cross last night. Played on a superb surface and in ideal conditions the two sides served up a thrilling contest with six goals, great saves, close calls and tremendous commitment from both teams.
Corinthians went into the final with just the one defeat this season which came against Ringmahon Rangers but boosted by the fact that they had a great record in Turners Cross winning two under 17 Cup finals there last season. Even though the squad had changed significantly since last season due to players moving to League Of Ireland Clubs, the core of the squad was still in place and their experience garnered in those finals was bound to help
Corinthians started well and went in front early on through Chris Og Jones, however the lead did not last long and Ringmahon Rangers were level midway through the first half. Corinthians responded superbly to this reverse and were back in front almost immediately through Dean Swords. Dean was to have a huge influence on the game and he pushed Corinthians further in frontjust before half time when scoring from close ranfe. Ringmahon threw everything at Corinthians now and got back in the game when they were awarded and converted a penalty midway through the second half.
The pressure was now on Corinthians and to their credit they responded again and with ten minutes to go were awarded a penalty which Dean Swords converted thereby completing a superb hat trick. Corinthians played out the remaining ten minutes without any major scares finishing deserving 4-2 winners
Congratulations to Cormac, Donal and all the squad on a great performance on the night
