Under 18 Premier win League Cup in thrilling contest
College Corinthians 2 Leeside 1
Corinthians Under 18 Premier came from behind last night to win a very enjoyable League Cup final. It was a terrific success for our lads who played with great spirit and determination on the night and just about deserved the victory over a very talented and well drilled Leeside side. The victory marks a great start to the sesason for team managers / coaches Michael Nason, Don Maher and Brian McGrath who had taken over from Mick Connolly and Michelle O' Regan at the start of the season.
It was always going to be a tight contest and Corinthians looked in trouble when former player Eoin Murphy scored from close range to put Leeside in front on the half hour. At this stage Cors looked in trouble but in typical fashion they worked their way back into the contest and just before half time drew level when centre half Chris Healy scored with a fine header following a corner.
Boosted by the equaliser, Corinthians opened brightly in the second half and getting a grip in midfield they took the game to Leeside and the pressure eventually paid off when a fine strike by Jordan O' Sullivan was parried by the Leeside keeper and Keith White was first onto the rebound scoring from close range. To their credit, Leeside despite the reverse did not lie down and they pushed hard for an equaliser but Corinthians back four held firm and the introduction from the bench of Joe Duggan, David O' Sullivan and Chris Prendergast gave the team fresh impetus in the closing stages allowing Corinthians to see out the game and claim the Cup.
Well done to all concerned, Corinthians squad on the night was
