Premier League Play Off

Corinthian Boys  3  Ringmahon Rangers  2

In an absorbing Premier Division Play Off Corinthians just got the better of Ringmahon to twin this year’s Premier League Title. It was a fantastic game of football, which was a credit to what has been a brilliant title race this season. In truth the game could have gone either way with both sides enjoying periods of domination but fortune favoured Corinthians on the day.

After a nervous opening It was Ringmahon who had the better of the opening exchanges looking the more dangerous side however Corinthians with Chris Og Jones and Sean Cooke doing well in Midfield coming into the game as the half wore on with their neat inter play created the best opportunity of the half when Mark Buckley was played in but the Ringmahon keeper made an excellent save.

The second half opened with Ringmahon in the ascendancy and they opened the scoring five minutes in, for the next ten minutes Corinthians were on the back foot but they were to level on 15 minutes when Mark Buckley scored with a tremendous strike from a narrow angle. The game now swung Corinthians way and three minutes later Mathew Draper put Corinthians in front with a fine header from a corner. Now behind for the first time in the match Ringmahon lifted the tempo and they were back level soon afterwards with a fine back post header after an excellent delivery from a close in free.

The winner goal and the fifth goal in 25 minutes came as the game entered its final 10 minutes when Chris OG Jones was on hand to score from close range following a dangerous cross from the right wing.  Ringmahon now threw everything at Corinthians in search of an equalizer and through a combination of stout defending, good goalkeeping and some good fortune Corinthians held on through six additional minutes to claim the Premier Division.  It was tough on Ringmahon who had contributed so much to a thrilling contest.

Congratulations to the management team of Cormac Cotter, Declan Cooke and Donal O’ Leary and to the entire under 16 squad.; they had suffered the disappointment last season of losing out on the last day of the season and less than a month it looked after three consecutive league and cup defeats their season was over but showing great character they got back on track winning their last three league games and then today’s play off, a great effort by all concerned.

Bryan Cotter;  Chris Og Jones, Colin O' Brien;  David O' Regan;  David Hogan, David Dalton;  David Lynch;  Gavin Holland, Ger Harrington, Harry Shanahan;  Jack Murray; Mark O' Leary;   Mark Buckley, Mathew Draper, Ross Welch;  Sean Desmond; Sean Cooke

Finally well done to Ross Welch who this week was selected as Cork Schoolboys League Under 16 Player Of the Year for 2013 / 14, the award is thoroughly deserved for his consistent performances through out the season.

Division 3

Corinthian Boys A  6  Carrigaline Hibs  1

A fine performance by our lads which saw Adrian O’ Leary’s side pulling away in the second half. Daragh Egan opened the scoring in the first half and he went on to complete his hat trick in the second period with Ian Turnbull, Andew Shelley and Roger Timmons also on the scoresheet.

Under 13

Premier Division

Corinthian Boys  1  Greenwood  2

The Under 13 Premier team suffered their first ever league defeat at home to a strong Greenwood team.

Corinthians has a very early chance when a run up the left wing was almost converted, this was the only real pressure created by Corinthians in the first period. Greenwood were winning every kickout and breaking ball. After 8 minutes Corinthians conceded a corner, while the initial corner was cleared, it was not chased down and Greenwood scored with a fine curling shot to the corner.

At the very end of the 1st half a strong run down the left wing win was not dealt with by the defence and Greenwood scored a second goal..

While Corinthians increased the pace in the second half they could not break down a well organised defence. A small number of chances were created but none were converted until a minute into added time.

While this is the teams first defeat they are still well in control of the league with 3 games left to be played.

Well done to Greenwood on a fine team performance and a well deserved victory on the day.
